Black History Month Newsletter

Each February the KHCC is proud to release a weekly newsletter sharing the stories and achievements of Black citizens of King Township and Ontario. Newsletters are released each Friday in February and can be found below. Read the latest edition here!

While we release these every February, Black history IS history and we conduct research and share stories of Black citizens throughout the year, contact us to learn more or to add to our research.

This year's theme for Black History Month in Canada is: “Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; a Future to Build”. According to the Government of Canada, this theme "celebrates the rich past and present contributions and accomplishments of Black people in Canada, while aspiring to embrace new opportunities for the future".
This year at the KHCC, we are interpreting this theme in two ways: celebrating Black excellence and heritage in the arts as well as supporting future writers in our community. Weeks 1 and 2 will feature articles from the KHCC, while weeks 3 and 4 will feature voices from youth volunteers in King Township and York Region.
